Potjiekos fellowship - what an event!
It’s early Sunday morning, 25 September 2022, and
there’s already a buzz at Robin and Edies’s place. In no
time the fires were lit and potjies were on their stands
sizzling away!
It was apparent that each potjiekos team had their own
unique ideas in place. Some added onions first and other
last. Secret sauces were mixed and added (some with red
wine even) and the day started off on a happy and high
note. JP’s cousin prepared a Texan steak potjie with
lots of yummy veggies. Aiden and Rose decided on an
oxtail potjie with a beautiful sauce to accompany the
dish in your plate. Robin and Edie mixed their oxtail
with lamb neck and veggies, and it looked and tasted
divine.
JP
decided to make a fruity chicken pot, and it turned out
to be delicious. Then we get to the oxtail potjie team
of Joanette. Their oxtail literally fell off the bone
and the tomato and red wine with rosemary and basil gave
it a distinct flavour!
Congrats to Joanette, Nosisi, Rama and Grant for taking
the trophy home! Honestly, all the teams deserved the
win, no doubt! To put the cherry on the top, apart from
all the malva and lemon puddings that made the rounds,
JP brought his guitar for a surprise sing-along. When
last did you sing at a braai? It literally brought
everyone together and whether you can sing or not, it
just didn’t matter. Till next year!

Picnic at Rietvlei Dam
As the family packed the picnic basket, I wasn't
sure what to expect on our Tuesday woman’s day outing.
We drove to the Rietvlei Dam not far from where we live.
The guard at the gate, where there was a long queue of
cars waiting patiently to go in, checked what we had in
our cooler box. We then drove through the nature
reserve spotting zebas, buffaloes and giraffes.
This was really fun.
It took us almost an hour to finally reach the picnic
site, where we met my Mom's fellow Rotarian-friends.
They were all so jovial as they chatted with each other.
The Rietvlei dam was peaceful and the picnic was so
nice. Everybody was friendly and shared their food with
us.
The Grannies even gave my Dada nickname: "Farmer Brown.”
We stayed till closing time. Our outing was lovely as
the leaves rustled and the frogs croaked at the sound of
the soothing lake. We drove along the lake sightseeing
the hippos and water bugs. It was such a nice and warm
day outdoors.
I would definitely recommend this picnic spot to friends
and family. What a lovely nature resort to calm down and
share fellowship with fellow Rotarians. This picnic had
a peaceful atmosphere and the sharing of friendship at
the picnic put you in a good mood to help and serve the
community.
It was an overall excellent day with fellow Rotarians.
I would definitely go back to picnic with them, next
time.
